In May it starts to get really hot in the Coachella Valley with daytime highs of 94°F. Days are long with 14 hours of daylight. Plenty of sunshine requires extra portions of sunscreen and the very dry air will make you thirsty- so make sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. At night it cools down a lot to lows of 66°F, even in May. Bringing a light jacket if you are planning some evenings out might be wise. As most of the year it is super dry with not a single day of rain to be expected.

In May the crowds visiting for the Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival have left and you will be able to find some peace in the untouched nature of the Indian Canyons. A must for the active ones is the Desert Hike trail of Palm Canyon.

Best Time to Visit Coachella Valley

If you are looking for hot weather, a trip to the Coachella Valley is worth it at any time of the year. Summer time however, with highs of 107°F, might be even too hot for the most sun loving visitors!

You might find the winter months from November until March, or maybe April, the most pleasant with temperatures in the 70s and 80s F. Remember though that nights can be cool in the desert!

April, of course, is the best time to visit if you’re looking to see some of the superstar headliners at the Coachella Festival!

Things to know about Coachella Valley

The desert valley of Coachella has been transformed into a luxury living and vacation paradise with numerous golf courses, polo fields, luxury hotels, restaurants and so much to do. The number 1 event that the area is famous for is surely the Coachella Festival.

Palm Springs:

• On the way to Palm Springs from LA you will pass the Morongo Casino in Cabazon.
• Once you are in Palm Springs a visit to the Palm Springs Air Museum is a must, especially for anyone into planes!
• A wonderful experience is a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway up to the San Jacinto Mountain, where you might even see some snow!
• The Indian Canyons are a great place to be for anyone after a lot of nature, peace and quiet.
• Anyone who wants to get active should give the Desert Hike trail of Palm Canyon a go!

Palm Desert:

• Palm Desert is a shoppers’ paradise. At El Paseo Gardens you will find over 50 shops, restaurants and bars.
• Westfield Shopping town is another huge mall.
• On weekends you will find the College of the Desert Street Fair on the University grounds.
• If you are after some nature rather than shopping, check out the Living Desert and Zoo Gardens.

Indio:

• Indio is also called the City of Festivals with its numerous annual festivals and most importantly the Coachella festival.
• Whether you are into horses or just looking for a great brunch location, check out the Empire Polo Club.
• The Shields Date Garden is a lovely place to take a stroll through the gardens and buy some goodies on the way out.

La Quinta:

• Check out the La Quinta Museum for a great exhibition of local history and cultural arts.
• At the Old Town La Quinta you will be able to enjoy a unique shopping experience.
• A lovely little church can be found and visited at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
